...HEAVY RAINFALL MAY CAUSE FLASH FLOODING ACROSS PARTS OF WESTERN NORTH CAROLINA TONIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY MORNING... .An approaching cold front and upper level disturbance will generate numerous heavy rain producing showers and thunderstorms across western North Carolina tonight through Tuesday morning. The approaching front will contain very moist air and the resulting heavy rain showers will fall on soil already saturated by recent heavy rainfall. Flash flooding could quickly develop under these conditions. ...FLASH FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT THROUGH TUESDAY MORNING... The Flash Flood Watch continues for * a portion of western North Carolina, including the following areas, Avery, Buncombe, Graham, Haywood, Madison, Mitchell, Northern Jackson, Swain, and Yancey Counties. * through Tuesday morning * Expanding coverage of showers and thunderstorms will result in areas of heavy rainfall impacting the mountains tonight through Tuesday morning. Soils are nearly saturated across much of the region, and the additional heavy rainfall may cause flash flooding to develop very quickly. * Residents in low-lying and flood prone areas will want to monitor nearby water levels very closely. Campers, hikers, and others involved in outdoor recreation activities must keep a close eye on nearby stream levels and be prepared to seek higher ground if flooding develops.
