Planets gather very low in the dusk sky

Lest we get any UFO reports we must advise you that there is a gathering of three planets in the western sky right after sunset. Mars, Venus and Mercury form a tight group very low in the sky, setting not too long after the Sun.

Jupiter still dominates the early evening sky, reaching the highest it gets just after dark. Before the Moon spoils the dark sky by mid-September you can see the southern part of the Milky Way near Jupiter. The teapot of Sagittarius and the scorpion of Scorpius bracket the Milky Way left and right.
