Forecast Discussion

A cold front moves from east TN this morning to the NC coast this evening. A narrow band of showers barely make it across the state line and then fall apart before reaching the foothills. Behind the front a gusty northwest wind ushers in colder air with falling afternoon temperatures. Residual low level moisture remains through much of the day and a mountain top flurry is not out of the question late this afternoon. Skies clear tonight, but the wind remains.

High pressure moves overhead Sunday allowing for plenty of sunshine and a diminishing wind. Temperatures stay closer to late February averages. As the high progresses off the coast Monday a southerly flow develops bringing with it milder air and showers late Monday and Monday night.

A warm front begins lifting north Tuesday providing another day of warming and widely scattered showers. The warm front clears the region Wednesday making for the warmest day of the week. Welcome to March! The warmth is quickly followed by the passage of a cold front Thursday morning. Showers, even a few thundershowers develop in earnest late Wednesday into early Thursday morning. Thereafter, the end of next week is seasonally cold.
